Bree refreshed her Facebook news feed for the third time. He was still there, between an article about a politician’s secret affair and one about a new movie trailer.

The paparazzi had snapped him exiting a high-profile sushi restaurant in West Hollywood—with his arm wrapped around Helen Barker. The same woman he’d been touching at the party.

Helen’s fingers were pressed lightly against Marcus’s chest, and she peered up at him with a secret smile. The woman had full lips, gravity-defying breasts, and legs that reached her shoulders. A New York investor had no business looking like a supermodel. Bree supposed she couldn’t blame Helen for that, and tomorrow she’d remember she wasn’t an insecure bitch who tore down other women because they were pretty. Tonight, she’d call it a victory if she didn’t hack the woman’s phone.

She hit refresh, willing the story away. Lead sat in her stomach. When she’d said they should try being friends, she hadn’t meant he could go off and be naked friends with another woman.

Tech guys rarely trended on social media, at least not for personal reasons—but most tech guys didn’t look like Marcus. He’d already been in the news all week, and here he was again, with a powerful woman who wouldn’t be out of place on the cover of Vogue.

Bree gnawed her lip. Did Helen really need her credit rating?

Bree clicked on the story. New Power Couple? Tech Superstar Marcus Keller Caught Canoodling With Fabulous Financier. The headline was nauseating. The picture made her want to kick something. Like Marcus’s balls.

No, she didn’t have a claim on him, but she thought they had an understanding, one he’d obviously interpreted differently than she had.

Bree had her pride, and that pride wasn’t okay with Marcus canoodling with anyone less than a week after they nearly had sex in the theater.

Perhaps he needed a reminder of what kind of friend Bree Rogers could be.
